The ceremony will be a tribute to her unwavering spirit, her profound impact on education, and the love she shared with all those fortunate enough to know her. Hollie is also survived by a caring niece and nephew, Dale and Sonja Hampton.Ī celebration of Hollie’s remarkable life will take place with a graveside service to be set at a later time at Hillview Memorial Cemetery. Her brother Rex along with wife Jane Hahn also survive. Her son and daughter-in-law, Reed and Margery Detring survive her, carrying on her legacy of kindness, commitment, and generosity. She was married for an impressive 75 years. Hollie married the love of her life, Frank Detring, in 1947 after he fought in World War II in the Pacific. ![]() Her precious grandchildren John (Lindsay) Detring, and Erika (Eugene) Ehrenkaufer, will keep the memories alive by sharing them with Hollie’s great-grandchildren, Aria and Remi Detring, along with Brennan, Kylie, and Eli Ehrenkaufer. She touched the lives of countless students, with many returning to express how she had influenced their journey and set them on the path to success.Īpart from her dedication to teaching, Hollie was an avid reader, a card game enthusiast, and a keen traveler who cherished moments with her family, especially during “grandparent camp” weeks when she would take her grandchildren on adventures and create lasting memories. She earned a Master’s Degree from Washington University. Hollie’s passion for education shone brightly throughout her 39 years and 8 months in the field. She continued to teach at Dry Bone, then at Johnson, where Rex attended 1st grade, and later retired from Farmington R-7. Having started her teaching career at the young age of 16 in a one-room schoolhouse in Walnut Grove. Hollie dedicated her life to education, instilling knowledge, and values in generations of children. Born on August 1, 1927, in Yount, Missouri to the late Howard and Adeline (Killian) Hahn. Hollie Detring, a devoted teacher, mother, and loving wife, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2024, at Presbyterian Manor in Farmington, Missouri, at the age of 96. ![]()
